These men were out with their five dogs, and high powered rifles, hunting wild boar that are to be found in this area of Japan in quite large numbers.
I came across them when they literally stepped out of the forest on to the narrow, mountain road almost directly in front of me.
I am sorry for the poor quality of this photo, but the dogs were really making life difficult, as they had just been in a skirmish with a boar, and were still running around uncontrollably.
In the melee, I forgot to check my camera settings, and had only one chance to grab this photo.
Really enjoy your photos and commentaries. Thanks for taking the time.

I just linked to this post on my blog. Two of these dogs look like Shiba inus (the subject of the blog) It's interesting to see Shiba inus are still used for hunting in their native land. I've always been interested in how they are used; if you know anything else, I would love to hear of it :)

Hi Ray. Just took a quick look at your front page and enjoyed the people photos. I lived in Kyushu (Kumamoto) for three years and miss it a lot. I'll be very interested to look into your archives. Drop me a line anytime.
Thanks,
Julie

Thanks Julie. I didn't realize you had lived in Kumamoto. Lovely area, with Mt. Aso, and all the onsens available. I have been there for the onsens quite a few times.
Please drop by again, and keep in touch.
