After two weeks back in Australia, I come home to this
pink bear attempting to talk passing motorists into
visiting a new restaurant, or small theme park, or
onsen, or something......
...and I know I am back in Japan, thank goodness!
I also think this is a very fitting image to celebrate my
250th post here on sashimibytes.
The temple complex at Narita, just a short train ride from
Tokyo International airport, is well worth a visit if ever you
get stuck in Narita Airport on a stopover. It is easily and
quickly reached by train directly from the airport. Tokyo
Airport is actually in the next prefecture of Chiba, a long
distance from Tokyo city, making that a difficult destination
for sightseeing on a stopover. But the temple is an adequate
replacement.
This lovely building is only one of many, including several very
beautiful pagodas.
This restaurant has photographs out front, rather than
the usual plastic models. The statue of the passerby
looking through a pretend hole intrigues me, though.
A beautiful, warm day in Saga, to herald in the
Spring of 2007. Sunday February 4th was officially
the first day of Spring in Japan. The perfect day
to clean up, and air the futons, and other bedding.
I'm not sure just who this car is designed to impress,
but it is certainly different than the average hoon car
that I used to see in Australia. They were usually about
speed, but this one?
This bicycle was obviously dropped outside
it's owners home before a night of moderate
snow. Another hour or two, and he might lose
it until next Spring!
This take-away snack has become very popular
in Japan. It is sweet potato, deep fried, then finished
in a pan with sugar syrup and sprinkled with sesame seeds.
The coating forms a sticky, candy coating over the hot
cooked potato.
